Doosan Bears foreign pitcher Brandon Waddell shut down the Samsung offense in the second game of the doubleheader.
Brandon started the second game of a doubleheader against Samsung in the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul on September 9 and pitched seven innings of two-hit ball with seven strikeouts.
Brandon used a mix of fastballs (45), cutters (37), and sliders (30) to cook the Samsung lineup, occasionally mixing in a changeup (4) and curveball (1).
Doosan was held to one run in eight innings by Samsung starter David Buchanan in the first game of an earlier doubleheader. They needed to take the second game of the doubleheader to close the gap on the fifth-place KIA Tigers.
So the pressure was on for starter Brandon. After coming in as a substitute starter this season, Brandon has been a solid part of the starting rotation with a 7-3 record and a 2.81 ERA in 11 games. He’s been on a roll lately, winning two straight starts.
In one game against Samsung, he pitched seven innings of one-run ball to earn the win, and he carried that good memory into today’s game.
He left runners on base in every inning from the first to the fourth, but didn’t allow a run. There was no scoring threat after the first inning. The fifth and sixth innings were shut down with a triple play to complete the quality start (6+ innings, 3 earned runs or less).
After throwing 96 pitches in the sixth, Brandon took the mound in the seventh. His pitch count was a bit high, but he still had plenty left in the tank. Brandon gave up a leadoff single to Lee Jae-hyun and a wild pitch to put runners in scoring position, but he got Oh Jae-il to fly out to center field and Kim Ho-jae to ground out to second base. 바카라사이트
Brandon was replaced by Hong Gun-hee in the top of the eighth with Doosan leading 3-0. Brandon’s 117-pitch outing was no match for Buchanan, who won Game 1.
